How much I love the smells and tastes of the season. Christmas food from goodies to cooked meals to my mother’s homemade apple pie. I just love it. The smells of spices and chocolate mint, what a lovely smell. I love baking. I love when you walk into a home, and you can smell the baked goods so well that you can almost taste it in the air. Now that’s Christmas.
All these tastes and smells can encourage a writer like me. I can imagine a scene playing out in my head and how the smells or tasting of the food may play in the character’s mood and emotions. It is like drinking up an old memory of way back when you were a child, and you smelt this particular goodie that you knew you loved so much.
This is one of the many reasons I love this time of year. We all have those memories that, with a simple smell or taste, can bring back good memories to our minds, from the smells of the spices to the tasting of Cranberry sauce to all the different kinds of foods that there could be. This is a great reason to celebrate. To celebrate the new and the old and to celebrate all the good times that have been shared with your loved ones.
What do you love about this time of year?
