At My Worst
When we first start seeing someone or dating someone, we tend to be at our best. We show a side of ourselves that is not a complete picture of who we are. However, love does not work that way. When you love someone, you love when the person is at their best and when they are at their worst. Now that is real love. When you can handle a person at their worst, that shows how much you genuinely care for that person.
In my writing, many of my characters will show their worst sides before their best because of how they meet their partner. I find this is a good way of getting a sense of who the person you are seeing is like. And as much as this happens to people in real life, people usually meet each other and only show their best.
But you must show people all the sides of yourself, your best and worst. That is the only way of knowing if the people you care about genuinely care about you. We are human, after all. We get angry and sad, and things happen that upset us. We get jealous and envious sometimes. As much as it is not good to hold onto these destructive emotions, we will still have them. This is just a part of life. We cannot portray perfection, for that is not possible. So I say let them see you at your worst. That is when you will know how much they care about you.
“I’m selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can’t handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don’t deserve me at my best.”
